We are Belen, Pavlos, Bader, Emmanuel, and Theo—five high school students from the United States, Switzerland, Kuwait, Greece, and the United Kingdom, united by our curiosity about artificial intelligence and its impact on our generation.

The idea for De-mystify AI began with Belen and Pavlos, who wanted to create a space where young people could learn about AI without being overwhelmed by technical jargon or alarmist narratives. Belen was determined to take the idea beyond a simple blog and build something that could reach students around the world. Together, they began developing the vision and reaching out to other students who shared their enthusiasm for science and technology. Bader, Emmanuel, and Theo soon joined the team, bringing new perspectives and ideas from their own experiences.

We all have a passion for science and technology and have been amazed by the astonishing rate at which incredible artificial intelligence (AI) is progressing, having the potential to soon solve some of humanity's greatest challenges. We are also perplexed by the 'doom narratives' surrounding AI, causing disruption and fear around us through claims that the technology will one day outgrow and destroy humanity. Our generation will be among the first to steer this transformative technology as well as to feel its great impact.

AI has already been a big part of our lives: we have been using it, eagerly reading news, articles, and research about it, watching expert interviews, documentaries and movies about it and some of us even writing about it in our high school newspaper columns. Belens' idea was simple: why not combine all of what we were doing already, and tailor it to young people, to explain and inform about AI and promote its safe, wise and ethical use, while engaging youth around the world who share an interest in the topic?

The rest is history - and this history is being written as we speak. We articulated our shared vision (see 'Our vision' page) and started giving shape to what you experience today in de-mystify.ai: several distinct sources of content (original podcasts by members, articles from the most thought-provoking media sources, interviews with top experts, engaging books, eye-opening documentaries and insightful lectures and courses), the ability to search by subject and keyword, and the invitation to contact us. Call the current stage a prototype. What comes in the next few weeks and months will make this prototype a full-functioning site as the epicenter of realizing our vision: extensive outreach to young people, even more enriched content, comment posting functionality, search for sponsors and partners, and the formation of the community we envision.
